George R.R. Martin’s saga is called A Song of Ice and Fire and all the pieces of evidence in the books point to two of its biggest character, Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen, as the personification of Ice and Fire, respectively. We know their arcs will have to cross one way or another. And here it is. Fans have waited so long for this moment (that’s twenty years for the books’ followers!!!) so it’s really quite a surreal experience to finally see it unfolding before our eyes: Jon and Dany in the same room. Jon and Dany sizing each other up. Jon and Dany talking. Jon and Dany possibly forming the most powerful partnership this side of the Narrow Sea – the frickin’ Song of Ice and Fire, baby! Everything they’ve been through has been building up to this moment. My excitement is off the charts!
Jon and Dany didn’t have the monopoly of this episode, however. It was pretty packed with significant scenes from beginning to end: queens meted out their versions of justice (hence the title The Queen’s Justice), soldiers invaded castles, family members got reunited, promises were fulfilled, and people were killed. My only problem is that D&D have muddled up the timelines in their hurry to reach the ending. I mean, Euron’s ship can travel that fast??? Don’t hurry too much D&D! I don’t know what I’ll do when this show ends! >.<

Stormborn, the second episode of Game of Thrones Season 7, gives us a taste of what we have all been missing from the premiere: blood. Lots and lots of blood. And it is quite a relief to have at least some action going on, even if only for five minutes, to balance the intricacies (and wordiness) of setting the pieces on the great big chess board that is Westeros. It is also a reminder that every move they make has a lot more bearing now in the grand scheme of things. The stakes are higher than ever, and everyone’s fighting for survival. As our characters’ paths begin to converge, we can rest assured that, when it does happen, it will not be a pretty sight.

Nothing gives me greater joy as of the moment than typing that phrase – Winter has arrived! And by that, I mean Game of Thrones – the epic medieval fantasy series filled with backstabbing (both literal and figurative), boobs, wildfire, dragons, and ice zombies – has returned to TV-land. It is particularly cathartic to say it considering the long wait I had to endure before its big comeback; I felt like Khaleesi stranded in the midst of the Red Waste. But it’s here, and my fangirl heart is now bursting at the seams. With HBO announcing that there will only be 13 episodes left (spread out over two seasons), I’m curious and excited as to how D&D (David Benioff & D.B. Weiss) will steer the show towards a satisfying (and hopefully, George R.R. Martin-approved) conclusion.
Episode 2 will air in a few hours but, for the meantime, let me go back and relive the Season Premiere with this recap~
